About RunEat Japan

RunEat Japan is a guide to running courses in Tokyo and Kanagawa for international visitors — runners who want to explore Japan on foot, not just from a train window.

Our Mission

Japan has some of the world's most beautiful and accessible urban running environments — but finding accurate, practical information in English can be difficult. RunEat Japan exists to bridge that gap: providing honest, factual course guides that help inbound tourists run confidently in a new country.

We cover distance, difficulty, facilities, access by public transport, seasonal conditions, and entry fees — information that matters to a runner who has one or two mornings in Tokyo and wants to make the most of them.

How We Choose Courses

Every course in our guide must meet the following criteria:

  • Accessible by public transport — all courses are within 5–10 minutes' walk of a major train or metro station, with no car rental required.
  • English-navigable — routes follow visible landmarks (rivers, moats, coastlines, parks) that do not require reading Japanese signage.
  • Suitable for tourist runners — courses suit a range of fitness levels and are usable without specialist gear or local knowledge.
  • Safe and well-used — all routes are regularly used by local runners and are safe for solo running, including for women running alone.
  • Factually accurate — entry fees, opening hours, and access information are verified. We clearly distinguish between free and paid access.

A Note on Course Conditions

Running course conditions can change. Entry fees, opening hours, path access, and facility availability may differ from what is listed on this site. Always verify current information locally before your run, particularly for courses that involve entry fees (Shinjuku Gyoen) or specific access requirements (Kamakura temple areas).
