About This Course
Shonan Beach is Japan's most iconic coastal destination and offers a flat, scenic running course stretching 5 km or more along the Pacific Ocean shoreline. The course begins at the Katase-Enoshima beach entrance, near the bridge connecting to Enoshima Island, and runs east along the Shonan coast toward Shichirigahama and the direction of Kamakura. The path alternates between a paved promenade and firm sand beach sections. On clear winter mornings, Mt. Fuji's snow-capped peak appears dramatically above the horizon — one of the most celebrated coastal views in Japan. The Enoshima Island itself rises from the sea just offshore and can be reached by foot via the Benzaiten causeway for a scenic loop addition. The beach area is free to access year-round. Summer (July–August) sees crowded beach conditions; the best running is in spring, autumn, and winter when the beach is quiet, the air is clear, and Mt. Fuji views are reliable.
