About This Course

The Zushi-Hayama coastline is one of the Kanagawa coast's most refined running environments — quieter and less commercialised than nearby Shonan Beach at Enoshima, but equally scenic. The 8 km course runs south from Zushi Beach along the bay-hugging coastal road through the affluent, low-rise residential town of Hayama, passing the Hayama Marina and the shoreline adjacent to the Imperial Villa (an Imperial Household Agency property on the coast). The path alternates between a formal seaside promenade and narrow coastal road, with the bay always in view to the right. The road is lightly trafficked and runners share it safely with slow-moving vehicles. Views across Sagami Bay take in Enoshima Island to the west and the Miura Peninsula hills to the south; on clear winter mornings, Mt. Fuji rises above the horizon with particular clarity. Hayama town (approximately the halfway point) has small cafes and bakeries for mid-run refreshment. The natural turnaround point is the Hayama Marina; from there, runners return to Zushi via the same coastal road or via the inland hillside roads for a slightly longer 10 km loop. A swim in the sea is possible at Zushi and Hayama beaches in summer.
