About This Course
Inokashira Park is one of Tokyo's most cherished public parks, a forested 38-hectare urban retreat in the western city suburb of Kichijoji. The park centres on Inokashira Pond — a natural reservoir fed by underground springs — around which a soft, shaded running loop of approximately 2 km winds through rows of cherry trees, zelkova, and pine. The path is a mix of compacted gravel and light paving, gentle on the joints. In spring, the cherry trees lining both banks of the pond form a pink canopy over the water, reflected in the still surface — a setting consistently rated among the most beautiful sakura spots in Tokyo. Rowing boats can be rented on the pond, adding a lively and photogenic backdrop to laps. The park is free and open at all hours, with toilet facilities near the main entrance and water fountains at several points around the loop. Kichijoji's thriving café, bakery, and restaurant scene (Harmonica Yokocho, Sun Road arcade) is within 5 minutes of the park exit — making this an ideal combination of running and dining. Multiple laps of the 2 km loop are easy to string together for a 4–6 km session.
