About This Course
Showa Memorial Park is one of the Tokyo metropolitan area's grandest public spaces — a 180-hectare national park in Tachikawa established in 1983 on the former site of the Tachikawa Air Force Base. The park features a clearly marked 4.6 km outer running course that winds through its diverse landscape zones: open grass meadows (used for festivals), formal garden areas, tree-lined promenades, and sports fields. The seasonal displays are exceptional throughout the year — tulips in April, sunflowers in summer, cosmos in autumn, and golden ginkgo avenues in November rival those of Jingu Gaien. The park charges a ¥450 adult entry fee (children under 15 free), which supports the park's exceptional maintenance. Toilet facilities and water fountains are positioned around the circuit. Unlike central Tokyo parks, Showa Memorial Park has the scale to feel genuinely spacious, and the 4.6 km marked course allows runners to track distance easily without apps. For longer runs, the park's internal paths can extend a session to 10+ km by exploring the cycling tracks (separate from running paths) and garden zones. The park is open from 9:30 am, closing times varying by season.
